what colour wire is typically ground?
January 25th, 2020
I’m not realy sure, cause i don’t realy do PC’s, but in a typical european home the electrical circuit is mostly grounded with a green/yellow wire
Usually it will be labeled. If it isn’t then black is usually the ground.
on some of the connectors there is a little arrorw on one of the pins. does that mean that pin is ground?
depends on alot. So not sure anyone can say a 100% what colour it would be. I have to product. In one it is blue. in the other it is actually brown.
If PC USA PSU, its black

That is probably just showing which way to insert them. What front ports do you need to connect to the motherboard? Usually USB are labeled on the wire and only fit in a specific spot.
i need to fit the usual stuff like reset button, power, hdd led, power led, usb. i read that some will work no matter what way you plug them in but because iam doing it for college i will get makred down if one is in the wrong way around
Its easy these days mate, the wires are all labelled and you will have a manual with your motherboard…
keep touching them until u find the wire that dosnt shock u at least i think ground wont shock u …………. Hmmmmm i think i need a fork and a socket to figure this one out
Black or grey.
From my experiences, it’s usually black but it may differ.
In general, the positive wire for the ‘power on’ LED is green, the positive wire for the ‘HD activity’ LED is red. The polarity of the power switch and reset connectors don’t matter. Other connections, as already mentioned, might vary with the manufacturer.
If you look closely at the plastic plug, there *should* be a tiny triangle/arrow….that’s the “+”.
* SP, SPK, or SPEAK: the loudspeaker output. It has four pins.
* RS, RE, RST or RESET: connect the two-pin Reset cable here.
* PWR, PW, PW SW, PS or Power SW: power switch, the PC's on/ off switch. The plug is two-pin.
* PW LED, PWR LED or Power LED: the light-emitting diode on the front pa of the case illuminates when the computer is switched on. It is a two-pin cable.
* HD, HDD LED: these two pins connect to the cable for the hard disk activity LED.
Don't worry about polarity. The Reset and On/ Off switch will work no matter how they are connected, but the LEDs will not light up if they are connected in reverse polarity. If you can hear disk activity but the LED does not light, simply reverse the plug.

As says, look in the mobo manual..
If a led don’t light, reverse the connection…This will show your knowledge of polarities
Black applies to the negative (common ground connections) from psu to the various devices…Mobo ,vid cards, HDD etc..
None of the front pa connectors offer “ground” or “earth”
The mobo is grounded to the case via the mounting screws.
The case is grounded out through the PSU mounting screws and obviously then back out through the PSU electrical connection at the wall.
The mobo is then grounded back out through the PSU via the ATX 20/24 pin plug connecting the two together, yes the Black wires, then back out through the wall. of course.
Apart from that, there is no “ground wire” or “colour” inside the box itself, like the power/reset/LED pa connectors – only on the PSU unit, in which case, yes it will be black
Your college should have taught you the various ATX standards before expecting you to connect anything up.
They should also have taught you how to run a multi-meter around the machine too – there you’d have learned the earthing continuity used
Good Luck
Ground wire is usually brown.
