Vmware bridged connection problems the ips are the same

August 5th, 2016

Hey guys I got vmware installed on my xp pro 64bit desktop while on the guest OS I have windows server 03, The connections are bridged but the ips remain the same as my xp pro ip. How is it I change this.
Thanks

Answer #1
In the virtual machine configure a static IP on the interface.
Edit: Make sure you enter your routers address as the default gateway as it might conflict with the DHCP provided in Vmware.
Answer #2
Ok when I do that the internet doesn’t work at all on the windows server 03 (quest OS) also I don’t about the routers ip like 192.168.2.14 or something I mean the ip like 82.xxx.xxx.xxx
Answer #3
Oh right, your external IP won’t change for every machine on your network. To find out your gateway address on the host machine do:
start > run > cmd
type: ipconfig /all
You should see Default Gateway, make sure you find it on the hosts NIC rather than the virtual interfaces.
Make sure you set a static IP in the subnet range of your network, by the sounds of it you should set a static IP in the range of:
192.168.2.2 – 254
Ensure that it doesn’t conflict with the IP your host is using.
Answer #4
Ye the 2 ips are changed for the router they don’t conflict as 1 is like xx.2 while the other is xx.14 or something, its really the external IP I need changing as am using it as a remote desktop server for my friend.
Answer #5
You can’t change the external IP, you will be able to use the current IP though and forward the relevant ports to the machine using your router.
Answer #6
Ye thanks I tried opening the ports for remote desktop but it doesn’t seem to work when I try and connect to it, Also I have a wireless card as well as lan but see if I edit the settings and let it connect to the wireless would it still work and change the external IP.
Answer #7
You only have 1 external IP address which is assigned by your ISP and you can’t change it. Do you have internet access on your guest system through the browser?
Answer #8
Yes I do the internet works fine on the quest OS using the browser
Answer #9
The problem will lie in the router, you will need to forward port 3389 (UDP) to the internal IP address you have assigned the guest OS. You can also use a different port if you wish however your friend will have to specify the port in the RD connection application like this: IP:PORT.
Answer #10
Yes done that and updated the port to the server just hope it will work on a friends computer
Answer #11
Good luck!
Answer #12
Well it works on my computer when ever I use the computers name so I try on a friends computer with the IP/the computer name
Answer #13
You won’t be able to use the computer name as an address on his computer unless he is directly connected to your network as his local DNS server won’t hold a name-to-IP mapping for your computer. You must use your external IP address, you can find it using www.whatismyip.com
Answer #14
Thanks it works =]
Answer #15
Congratulations!
