Using downloaded apps on a Blackberry

Before i go downloading the many apps available for blackberry phones, is there anything i need to do to my BB first in order to run the apps (i.e unlock/firmware change ect) ? im semi-computer literate so be gentle

You will need to install the desktop software that came with your phone onto your computer, and then all the apps you download will be through the BlackBerry App World, so you will have to install that on your phone. The process is quite automatic.
