USB BOOT

January 23rd, 2020

I have a Tablet PC but they wiped the system and it has no CD Drive or floppy. i have a copy of XP Pro specifically for it but no way of getting it on there… so i figure that making a USB Stick boot the installation is a simple way around it, I was wrong, or so it seems, so im looking for a simple leamence terms guide to making that happen as i do not own an external CD/DVD Drive (which has worked in the past but system files got corrupt on the HDD). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have no experiences in a Tablet PC, but if it is like any other PC, try going in BIOS and change the Boot Sequence to boot from the USB stick first, that would allow you to install Windows on it.

You’ll need a special version of windows xp made specifically for usb sticks i think. I don’t think you can just copy it over or something

Yeah, you can copy all the files from a windows installation to a USB stick and boot from it. Not sure about the BIOS setup for a Tablet PC though but if your USB stick supports booting then you need to enable legacy for USB in your BIOS setup and then set the USB stick as the first boot device. Then, after it is booted from you need to run the file named “WINNT.EXE” which is located in the i386 folder. Good luck mate ^_^
