USB 3.0 with USB 2.0 speed on Dell Vostro 3360

August 4th, 2016

Hello. My uncle’s laptop is a Dell Vostro 3360. It had USB 3.0 ports and we’re using a Seagate External Hard Drive that is also USB 3.0 powered. But when we’re transferring from my external hard drive to his laptop, it’s only USB 2.0 speed. 30 mb/s. We want to utilize the speed of USB 3.0. Any suggestions on how we can make it work?

Are you using the USB 3 cable? Normally blue with two mini-connector thingies (I know I know…. way too technical) on the one plugin.
I would also check to see that the usb3 drivers have been installed.
Quick edit: what model of external do you have? Some of the first ones out (model and manufacture date do matter on this one) were USB3 but not really – Seagate (and others) kind of stretched their claims on xfer rates. SURPRISE – not!
Answer #2
Are you 100% sure it’s a USB3 external? What model is it?
Also, The cable you used, Does it have a blue plastic on the inside of the USB connector?
Answer #3
Yes my usb cable is the one with the blue plastic inside and it has SS written on its coat.
