Upgrade, Build or Buy New?
August 28th, 2013
The Specs:
Model: Gateway GM5483E
Processor: IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® D 925 dual-core 64-bit processor
Chipset: Intel 945GC
Memory: 3GB (1x2gb, 1x1gb) (Side note: people tell me that it was stupid to put two different size memories into the computer. Also the specs on the model’s website says Expandable to 2gb… so I’m probably breaking some rules lol)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT 430
Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
HDD: 320 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA II hard drive
Sound: Integrated 6-Channel (5.1) High Definition Audio
I’m aware that the worst part is the CPU and motherboard because they are like 6 years old. My guess is building a new one from scratch is cheaper than buying a new one and more worth it than upgrading this one.
Thoughts?
You need a whole new PC there mate.
Building it yourself would be the best bet to get the most from your money.
You can always pirate or use a existing OS.
How much cash is this budget?
You just gotta build your own ….. the enormous satisfaction you get when it’s up and running is almost as good as sex.
Preferably under $800. I’m capable of learning everything to build one, I just don’t know where to start really. There is so much out there that it can be overwhelming. Any place to start?
Also what is the reliability of pirated OS’s? Just seems like a big thing to potentially screw up.
building one is relatively easy, there are some good ebooks in the ebook section here. that teach you step by step.
the rest is just choosing the parts. which people in here can help with. (and google)

Perfectly fine mate.
Few people here to show you the best components to buy within your budget.
I’m super tired just now, so if nobody has given you some solid configs to look at tomorrow then i’ll help ya out.
i would highly suggest starting from scratch and building your own, i put together a build really quick that i am in no way saying is the perfect build for you.. but if I was going to do an ~$800 budget build this is would i would use.. it’ll atleast point you in the right direction and im sure others or myself could help point you in a more specific direction depending on what you want, such as how much HDD space
