unusual problem with pc usb ports
January 24th, 2020
im plugging it in the case usb ports
look here
so my computer doesn’t detect the drive..
where as if i plugin oher devices it will see it like my USB headphones but not the portable hardrives.. ive tested this with WD Passport 300GB portable hardrive… and HITACHI 500 GB portable hardrive both doesn’t see it.. but when i plugin it tho at the back of the pc (USING pc USB ports.. it does detect it…) at first when i first pluggin the WD passport it did detect it and installed drivers then no driver ever listed under “My Computer” (using the front case USb ports)
im thinking if there some kind of software to reset or revert USB Port settings so i could use the front case USB ports…
i also ran click Run > type diskmgmt.msc still doesn’t see it there.
pls advice..
Hi first looks if your external hard drive are usb 2.0 and if your front usb port are usb2.0 too
second looks inside the computer if you have any wire to connect your front usb to the mother because if nothing are connected between your front usb port and your motherboard its not gonna work for sure
well ive been using my front usb ports for iphone, usb stick.. sometimes external hardrives.. but this PORTABLE hardrives are pain.. they always have problems.. if it doesn’t show up…. both ports 2.0 tho…
portable hardrive works on different computer (laptop) but not on my front usb computer…
more importantly, what operating system do you have?
alot of portable harddrives are incompatible with a 64bit operating system
especially vista

windows 7 x64 bit… maybe ur right

I doubt that as the rear port works
sounds like your not getting enuf power to the front ports, and that my be a deficiency of the motherboard
or the front USB plug may be incorrectly installed you could check the USB hubs in device manager and make sure they have “power management” disabled

This is totally untrue. Only some model specific utility programs or backup solutions that install their own drivers from the drive might be incompatible. But the core drive itself will work on any OS, just like a flash drive. Plug and play.
