Unlocked iPhone services

July 25th, 2016

My friend currently has a sidekick but she wants to get an iphone (unlocked). Will she still get the same internet services on the iphone as the sidekick? Or does she have to change her phone plan to be able to use the 3g network? Can an unlocked iPhone use the new carrier’s 3G network?
Answer #1
If you’re in the USA the iPhone will only work with AT&T’s 3G network. As for other countries I’m not sure completely, but i think there are a few networks that work. Your gonna have to check the frequencies though.
You can still stick a T-Mobile SIM in the phone, but you’re limited to 2G speeds.
Answer #2
is there anything that needs to be done other than unlocking so that the iphone can use the 2g network?
Answer #3
Unlocking the phone will just allow any provider for the phone. That is all you need to do to use whatever network T-Mobile is offering. I am still unable to understand how it is legal to lock a phone to a specific provider. But, they’ve been doing it for years over at Nextel.

The Sidekick data plan won’t work for the iPhone, he’ll have to change it to a data plan that is capable with it.

He’s not going to be able to just swap sim cards, but, if he takes the unlocked phone to TMobile it will work.
Answer #6
Actually, it’s just the opposite. If the phone is unlocked, and he puts a T-Mobile SIM in it will work (he will be able to make calls and maybe text).
He WON’T be able to get online if he still has a Sidekick data plan.

I didn’t say he could use a sidekick plan… That’s why I said take it to Tmobile when it is unlocked they can give him a new plan, then he could access the features he wants, maybe not 3g but, internet. It then would not be a Sidekick plan but a NEW plan.
Anyway, I’m only posting in this section to try to help people, not to argue with other users about their post or my own post and who is right or wrong. If I’m wrong so be it and sorry for the misinformation, you could find out which of us are correct easily by calling Tmobile and asking them. Have a nice day Sir.

So basically you’re posting here and giving advice, whether it’s right or not?
VERY helpful.
Thanks.
OP: You will need to have a new data plan added.

No, I am not. I know I’m right, you just want to take out the bad day your having on someone so I guess that’s me. OP: You will need to have a new data plan added.
That’s what I was trying to say.

Sorry, I misread this post originally and therefor had no reason to reply, you already said what I was trying to say. So basically you're posting here and giving advice, whether it's right or not?

Just uncalled for.

The best plan is to go into the network store and say “i have a Iphone what internet packages do you have”
Answer #11

No, that is the only way they can provide service for it.
