Unidentified Network

August 4th, 2016

Hey guys, I’m trying to fix my friend’s old alienware computer, it’s having some network problems. Using a wired ethernet connection, I get a Unidentified Network instead of actually connecting to the internet. This happened just after I installed windows 7 on it. I thought it might be a driver problem but updating hasn’t helped. I’ve tried disabling ipv6, releasing/renewing the ipconfig, different cables, different ports, etc. Any ideas? Thanks

Have you tried assigning the PC a static IP?

@: I’ve seen that video and it didn’t work for me.
@: How would I go about doing that?

Here you go:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/
However, don’t just copy off the IPs from that example. You’ll need to determine the network range that your router is in and assign your computer an IP address from that range.
You should be able to tell your Router’s IP range from the user manual. The Router IP usually looks something like 192.168.1.x or 192.168.2.x or something like that with a mask of 255.255.255.0

Does the net work on any other devices throughout the house? Does the wireless work?
