Trying to set up a surround sound system.

August 1st, 2016

Not long ago I bought a Martin Logan 5.1 Surround Sound system along with a Yahama audio receiver. The back of the speakers have knobs that allow the speaker cables to be twisted around and then tightened. The audio receiver has clips on the back that allow the speaker cables to snap into place. The subwoofer only has the red and white audio jacks on the back. I bought a Y audio cable such as this one: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Audio-Cable-12-foot/dp/B000067RBT/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406169492&sr=8-1&keywords=audio+cables I plugged that cable into the front of the audio receiver where the audio Auxiliary port is located. After I turned on the subwoofer all I could hear was a loud humming sound. Am I using the wrong audio cable? Am I plugging the Y audio cable into the wrong port on the receiver? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, wrong place I would say..
I would think that the sub woofer should plug into a sub woofer socket on the back of the amp.
Post a link to your Yamaha and your sub woofer if you need.
Did you get all this together as a package, or you trying to add this sub woofer later ?

I will post a link to the speakers, subwoofer and audio receiver. The Martin Logan surround sound speakers and subwoofer came together as a set. I think there is a subwoofer port on the back of the receiver however the cable fits inside with a bit of force. Martin Logan surround sound system with subwoofer

I couldn’t find a picture of the back of the Martin Logan surround sound system.

It says that your amp has a ‘preamp’ output that can be used for a sub woofer..
Answer #4
The audio receiver does have a port on the back that says subwoofer but the problem is that when I try to plug the cable into it I have to use a bit of force. I don’t want to damage the port that’s on the back of the audio receiver by applying too much pressure.
Answer #5
A normal RCA plug, as used on your sub woofer , should fit OK..
Bend the ‘shell’ parts out a smidge if it too tight…or give a squirt of CRC or similar.
