Personally, I think Avast is the best lightweight Anti Virus.
AVG is a lot lighter than avast
Well as far as I know ESET is the best there is.. I know AVG was big for a while, and Mcafee and Norton tend to be resource hogs so not sure what your next best bet would be. Good question on the quarantine.. If I had virus protection I would check on this, but the program either takes the infected file and repacks it in a protected file, or stores the file within a system file which will be deleted or left on your computer during installation. I tend to remember being asked this before during an un-installation though so you might find your answer then.. I highly doubt it will let the files free though, especially without checking with you first.
