Strange HDMI problem…
December 25th, 2013
I had my laptop connected to a monitor for well over a year and then this strange bug appeared. My Monitor keeps blinking (black screen in different intervals – usually about 0.5 to 1 sec and sometimes up to 10 sec apart) and well there are times when it doesn’t get any picture at all but the connection is ok cause it didn’t show check cable and it didn’t go to sleep, it is still on.
This is not a monitor problem i tried on 3 monitors so far. And yes i have upgraded all of my drivers and even my BIOS. I am working on VGA connection now but it really sucks on a 27″ monitor…
I was just thinking that something in my gfx or mainboard broke until recently when i gave it a shot again, and realized that it is working… or it was working until i got back to my room and plugged it to my monitor… the thing is, it was working cause it wasn’t plugged in power (i usually never use my battery)…
So i did a test i had my laptop on with battery and HDMI and its all ok but the moment i plug the power in HDMI starts blinking…
While im only on battery power there are times when it blinks but usually does it once every 30 min or so (it is really random)…
Well i just want to know if it really could be an adapter fault…
And also to help if anyone else has this problem cause i couldn’t find it anywhere…
This is a:
Gateway P-series P-73 – Im not 100% sure
Power Adapter – (ADP-120ZB) – 19V, 6.32A (I think it is OEM, Delta Electronics. INC.
Battery Wear level – 20%
you don’t have another charger to try, do you ?
you have a diff HDMI cable to try ?
if you pull the battery and just use the charger any diff ?
you could try going into you power settings and setting every thing to “never” turn off
also try fiddling whit any power saving settings in the BIOS
well i was thinking to go and by another power charger… probably today… and yea i tried with different hdmi cabels.
When i have just my power in without battery well i can barely get any picture at all its mostly just black screen…
it doesnt have anything to do with power settings and my BIOS has very little settings…
I will let you know is it the power charger later today if i find one to buy…
When i have just my power in without battery well i can barely get any picture at all its mostly just black screen...
it’s possible that it’s the connector in the lappy too
screen brightness change if you jiggle/rotate the plug
Nope it doesn’t change I went to the shop today and they don’t have a strong enough adapter, found one on ebay but I’m not sure still if its the adapter… So I will probably buy a gateway adapter when I get the money for it…
