Sound card

October 30th, 2013

Well, planning to give away my old PC to my cousin… It just has 1 PCI express slot, in which theres a graphics card (7600 GS) and I already got mine (HD5670!!).. So will this sound card http://in.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=873&product=16770&listby=usage work on normal PCI port? If no, then suggest me one which will support 5.1 channel… They already bought Creative wired 5.1…. Please i need a quick reply.. Thanks!

A PCI Express card will only work in a PCI Express slot.
You need a Conventional PCI card to go in a Conventional PCI slot.

No, because you didn’t give your location or budget.
If you don’t care about the quality, just get anything thats 5.1 and goes in a PCI slot.

Get a second hand Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS from E-bay – they have great sound quality, 5.1/7.1, and are PCI. Not too sure if you can get the drivers for Vista/Win 7 though.

ASUS XONAR DG
Then you will not need to deal with the zillion and one problems creative drivers will give you.

First I just wanna clarify the confusion,There’s PCI-E 16x used for graphic cards and PCI-E 1x used for standard expansion cards,These
are not the same thing and if your motherboard has a 1x slot,You could fit that sound card just fine,Also,Creative speakers can work
with any sound card and not just their own,Surely your motherboard already has onboard audio of at least 5.1 and this would be a waste
of money,You could obtain your motherboard model using speecy and google it if unsure,But odds are I’m right.

This seems to solve it.. just one question before.. quality?

There's PCI-E 16x used for graphic cards and PCI-E 1x used for standard expansion cards,These are not the same thing and if your motherboard has a 1x slot,You can put in a 1x or a 4x card in a 16x slot.
This seems to solve it.. just one question before.. quality? If you’re wondering about sound quality then you can forget about Creative. The only card that Creative has that can compare with ASUS’s lineup is the Titanium HD and even that falls short compared to ASUS’s high end. Remember though that the DG is a card aimed for headphone use while the DX is for general 7.1. If you have headphones get a DG else the DX. The DG also has a small amp built in. I’ve had a Xonar Essence STX for around 3 years (ever since it’s release) and I’ve never had any issues with it.
