Sony Vegas Issue

August 2nd, 2013

I’m trying to import an .AVI into Sony Vegas, and it keeps saying that it’s not allowed to be opened. I’ve checked with codec’s and GSpot says I am good to go.. Any solutions? Perhaps I should convert the video?
If so, any recommended formats? Thanks. I’ve searched the internet and this seems to be a common issue, but alas, no solution.

With something like that it is normally a codec issue, .AVI’s do have some weird codec options and you could have trouble with them. Try converting it to a .mp4 or a .mov (h264) just as a test to see if it is the codec. If it still doesn’t play then your video file might be corrupted or in some way shape or form copyright protected. If you downloaded the file try re downloading it or try re capture / re copy the file from the source. One other thing to keep in mind is the size of the file, some .avi files can get pretty large in file size and in some cases this could cause problems, especially if your computer is not high spec’ed enough to handle the data rate. Although this should not cause a black screen response but is something to keep in mind.

Use Freemake Video Converter and choose another format, it might be the .avi having issues for some reason:

What format is best to convert to without losing quality from AVI? thanks by the way!
Answer #4
I guess you will always lose quality. Try mp4 or MPG2.
