[SOLVED]question regarding windows 8/8.1!

quick question, if I’ve got a windows 8 genuine product key, can I install windows 8 then upgrade to 8.1 (through the store) and when 8.1 is retail, will it be genuine?

yeah, thanks. I downloaded windows 8.0 and finally installed 8.1 from the “store” I used my key that a friend gave me. thing is, this pc > and it’s saying windows.old. I tried to re-name it (which I did sucsessfully!) and tried to delete but it won’t delete. what can I do? I tried unlocker to no avail!
EDIT: all is good, I took ownership, renamed it and deleted it. thanks again for your help.

Install ‘Take Ownership’ to right click context menu, take ownership of Windows old (right click and select Take Ownership), you should then be able to delete it.

If you have installed 8.1 now, it is only the “preview” and not the full version due out next month.
When it is released you will probably have to format and start again…
