[Solved]HDD Serious trouble PLEASE HELP?

August 5th, 2016

I have a 500 WD hard disk ,I was using it for storage then I decided to install windows xp on it,and when I reached the partition selection window it gave me the 5 drives which I created when I 1st formatted the disk plus an 8 MB unallocated space at the beginning of the disk so I ignored this space and selected the next drive to install windows but the installation didn’t work and gave an error the the disk is not suitable for copying the installation files So I opened the disk in powerquest partition magic in another HDD and tried to merge the little space with the next drive but it had to be formatted so I did and here when the problem occurred it didn’t formatted the 8MB space and I lost the last drive in the disk which is 130GB and became recognized as raw volume and I can’t access it unless it is formatted Is there anyway to fix this drive because I have a lot of movies and programs stored on it that took a lot of time to download ?
PLEASE HELP?

Answer #1
Try connecting it to another computer as a secondary disk, and try some recovery apps from my sig.
Answer #2
Yeah, use it as a secondary disk on another system and use a Recovery application.
Answer #3
did you use “Powerquest MagicPartition” or “partition magic”
“partition magic” is old and error prone
EASEUS Partition Master Professional Edition
says it can recover partitions
search apps section for “EASEUS” or “recovery” for other apps

I used Powerquest partition magic ver. 8 which is old maybe it’s the cause so what should I do ? because it’s gotten worse now the drive became unallocated space after trying a program called ZAR (Zero_Assumption_Recovery_8.5.11) can I format the drive then try to recover the lost data?

well bro, im on a roll. and have intentions of giving solutions for the weary…
make sure that 8mb space remains at the begining of the disk partition (drive) – move it to the front, beginning of the physical drive, as allocated space. where it belongs. if its not in front it wont boot.
I used partition magic and had a problem with booting… until i moved that 8MB space to the front of the drive to get desirable results…

First of,Never use partition magic again,It’s very old and buggy! Better use acronis disk director next time. FYI the 8MB partition
is normal:

Now bout the actual issue,Data is only recoverable til
overwritten so formatting & reinstalling the OS
could result in permanent data loss so it’s
highly unrecommended. You’d be best
either using active bootdisk (use active undelete from it)
and recover the data to an external HDD or remove
it and hook it up to another PC as secondary
and use file scavenger or data recovery wizard.

if the above suggestions fail get data back is a good recovery tool it’s one of the few that will recover your files with file names intact instead of 001 002 etc.

THANK GOD and thank you guys for your help ,I managed to recover almost every thing
And thanks especially for your warning and advice were perfect

So this what I did 1st I downloaded Active boot disk 5.0.5 and burn it on a C.D.
and reboot then I used Active Partition Recovery tool, selected the unallocated space which was previously a 133 GB NTFS partition ,and did a quick scan which gave me nothing so I used the other option super scan ,it took some time but it worked and gave me 4 lost partitions with different size two of them were 133gb so I selected one of them labeled not bad and found that it has all the files names which is supposed to be on the lost partition so I recovered it and before the program began the processing it gave me a warning that most likely not all my files and folders will be seen in the recovered partition and I should use Active File Recovery tool after that ,so I continued with the recovery process and got the 133gb NTFS partition back but with no files .
So I started Active File Recovery tool which is also on the disk and started super scan and it gave me the files and folders with there original names but not all of them, the missing files were found under lost & found folder
And I recovered almost all the files just one movie didn’t work but so what that is a very great result considering the alternative The only draw back is that it took me a very long time to finish but it worth every second, So thanks again

Glad it all worked out I hope you learned a valuable lesson from all of this,Never
take your data for granted,This time you got off easy
but next time you might not be so lucky! You now
know the basics of data recovery but this will not
help you one bit if your HDD will ever have a physical problem.
You’d be best maintaining backup on a regular
basis to another HDD,This can be done automatically
with a good backup app,I recommend this one:

Also having a quality PSU (Power Supply) is essential to prevent your HDD/s from being fried,Cheap ones don’t carry any protections and can easily
fry other components when they go out.
