Yes, Higher the resolution..The more the game will slow down.
Lower it and the performance will go up CONSIDERABLY.

Depends on your GPU as well as on monitor…Monitor in the sense the max it can support..
1024×768 is 4:3
If you own a low end pc. 1024 x 768 and a 4:3 monitor is ideal..
Ideal resolution depends on what type of PC you own.

Resolution depends on the graphics card. A VGA can send a 1080p signal but it will not look good as a HDMI 1080p picture.

Simply put, the more pixels there are on screen, the more detail there is for the GPU to render. Shaders tend to apply effects on a per-pixel basis, which is why FPS drops as resolution increases – geometry lines also become longer at hi-res, so more power is used to compute them.
