[SOLVED] Screen goes black – URGENT HELP NEEDED

January 22nd, 2020

While using the pc, pixelated horizontal lines began to appear on the screen and then everything went black. Every time I restart the pc, the pixelated horizontal lines appear starting from the WELCOME screen and on the desktop screen. (Photo below)

The problem is; whenever I try to open anything, such as any tabs or programs, the screen goes black immediately, but the pc is still running. I figured maybe uninstalling or atleast updating my graphics card driver would help but can’t even get there without running into black screen. Won’t let me change screen resolution because right clicking the desktop screen and selecting “screen resolution” makes the screen go black. Also tried opening control pa from CMD option, again, it went black. The problem does not appear when I start the pc in safe mode though. Although it is not possible to uninstall or install anything there so it doesn’t help much except for backing up my files and folders.
Tried restoring my system to an earlier time, did not help.
……
What can I do? How can I uninstall my graphic card driver or install a new one if the screen goes black the second I try to open any tabs or programs?

Answer #1
You do realize it’s your MONITOR that is broke, not your PC, right?
Answer #2
You sure? But then shouldn’t the pixelated horizontal lines appear when I also start the pc on safe mode?
For example my screen is not messed up right now because I’m running on safe mode.
Answer #3
It could be even your Graphics card is dying..
The only sure way to find out is to test it with a different Monitor or Graphics card..
Answer #4
I think ‘s first suggestion is correct as this happened on my son’s PC a few years ago (minecraft killed it), the monitor is still going strong, the PC long gone. If it was the monitor you wouldn’t get anything or have a constant (lines in the same place, dead area etc) but this varies, so time to change GPU (you could pick up a 250 or something like that for next to nothing to double confirm).
Answer #5
Yes, GPU or monitor that no longer like high res..
If there is another monitor around, it would probably be easiest to try that first..
Answer #6
Open your PC, remove your graphics card and make sure it is clean (especially the heatsink). Then remove and reinsert your RAM and see if that fixes it ……. it could be your RAM.

Thank you everyone for your help. Turns out the problem was a malfunctioning graphics card. Went out and bought a new one today and no more pixelated lines and no more black screens. Again, THANK YOU!
