Sharing my wireless network

September 1st, 2021

Hello,
I am trying to figure the best way to share my internet connection with my brother who just moved in next door to me.The distance is not far at ll,but enough to make running a wire impractical. My new router has wirelees and I have a Fonera access box floating around here somewhere.
I want to do something DIY cheap have been doing some google searhing and I keep coming across either the cantenna or the satellite antenna. And I could probly knock one of these up no problem. But they seem to be for receiving the signal. What is the best way to broadcast the signal? Hopefully without sharing the signal with the whole neighborhood.
Thought I would post and get some input/suggestions/ideas/etc.
Thanks for reading.

I’m unfamiliar with the Fonera but question why you would need to use it when the wireless router should be all you need. I would look to configure the wireless router to allow him a secured connection to it.
Answer #2
Well,I have did as you did suggested but he was unable to find the network at his house.I don’t think the wireless signal can get out of my house much less into his without some help.Hence my dilemma.
And I mentioned the Fonera thing if anything required taking apart ,modding ,ect I would be willing to but not to my new router. If you get my meaning.
Answer #3
Is it possible for you to relocate, even if temporarily for experimentaion, the router to an elevated position and/or closer toward the other house?
Answer #4
This is where the Fon thing comes in handy,I did take it outside as far as the cables would reach. However there was no improvement.
Answer #5
From what little I have read on the Fonera device there would be no point in using it if the range was too small to be of use to anyone so I would suspect you have not configured all the devices properly. You could look at purchasing a wifi booster but I would want to experiment a little first. For example, if you have a wireless laptop that can be carried from your house to your friend’s then you would be able to determine the effective range. Another thought is to bring his computer to your house where you can be certain it is within range of the wireless and confirm whether or not it connects. If it fails then it is a safe bet you have a configuration problem somewhere.
