Recommend me a graphics card please

July 31st, 2016

I currently have a Radeon x1600
I don’t game on my computer. The reason I want a new graphics card is so I can use my 26″ HDTV as a monitor to watch my movies that are on my computer using media browser in windows media center (Windows 7)
I’ve tried a VGA cable to connect to my TV from my computer but the resolution of my current graphics card only goes up to 1440 by 900. Also would a graphics card with a HDMI port look better than if I used a VGA cable on my HDTV instead? Would be nice for it to be able to connect to my TV and monitor at the same time.
Other specs you might need to know:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
2GB Ram
Packard Bell BV Cuba MS-7301 (Socket 775) Motherboard
So can I get a new graphics card for what I want for around 60?

Answer #1
you motherboard supports the PCI xpress x16 interface. so you could go for the 8 series in geforce.
you could also consider the HD4570 from ATI. it supports dx 10 so it would be an added advantage.

I would recommend this for around 60:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-Gainward-GT-220-1580MHz-GDDR3-GPU-645MHz-Shader-1403MHz-48-Cores-D-Sub-DL-DVI-I-HDMI
Its got all the connectors you need and more than sufficient for using your 26″ HDTV as a display device.
Answer #3
is your HDTV a full HD or HD ready?
Most graphics cards even the radeon x1600 go up to 2560*…. resolution.
Probably your tv only supports that resolution?
For the 2 screen part it could be a reason to change but don’t you have an hdmi and a vga output?

Thanks guys
Its a HD ready tv which goes up to 1080i. I’ll prob be buying from www.overclock.co.uk or www.overclockers.co.uk
I’ll connect my pc up to my tv again with the VGA cable and check the resolution, I’m sure last time I tried it only went up to 1440 by 900, same as my 19″ computer monitor.
Edit: I connected my tv up to my pc and the resolution is now 1360 by 768. What should the correct resolution be on a 26″?
Answer #5
Thats a “HD Ready” (720p) Resolution. LCD TV’s sold by that moniker show that resolution (1366×768), so, I dont think its Full HD. (1080i is different from 1080p, P is actually Full HD). If your LCD supports Full HD, the resolutions hould be 1920×1080
Answer #6
1366×768 says google.
