PLZHELP! installing Leopard that came with MB PRo on MacBook

February 2nd, 2020

Hello guys, im new to this wonderfull forum which a friend recommended, and im also relatively new on a Mac too so please bare with me.
I bought a used MacBook, the 2006 model with 1.83ghz and firewire, and i got it cheap cause the guy had lost all the recovery cds and so on, he had the warranty but thats kinda useless when its expired… Anyway, naturally i want to format and install a new copy of the mac os x Leopard, so i borrowed it from a friend, he has a new Macbook pro and the MacOS DVDs came along with it.
So far, by googling, i found out that the “recovery discs” that i borrowed from him, are locked to either a certain modelnumber, or certain hardware speccifications, so when i boot on the DVD, and choose Language, it says “this can not be installed on this computer” or some like that…..
Can ANYONE PLEASE help?!?! is there a way to bypass that? WITHOUT having to connect my MB to his MBPro, cause he lives far from here
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks…. kind regards

Answer #1
The disks he gave you are not recovery disks, but in fact are the full copy of Leopard. However you are correct that the disks that he gave you will only work in a macbook pro as they are customized to the features of the specific product. There are a few threads on in the mac section that contain links to full downloads of the generic version of Mac OS X Leopard, which will work in any MAC computer.

Go to the thread posted above.
EDIT: Also mate this is the wrong place and it should have been posted in the Help Desk.

No its been moved so everything is great. You can install from an external drive and there are instructions on here somewhere. You do need to have the drive formatted to mac os x extended journaled though.

sorry to “disturb” u guys again… i FINALLY got the single layerdvd mac os downloaded, and i used this guide to convert the dmg to iso with magiciso:
http://www.magiciso.com/FAQ/FAQ0011.htm
i burned it successfully, but when i put the DVD inside the macbook, it just spits it out again after like 10 seconds…. does that mean its not bootable? or what might be the problem?
