Photoshop keeps resetting itself to default settings

September 3rd, 2013

The problem
For some reason, after a system startup (Windows 7), my Adobe Photoshop CS3 decides to reset itself to default settings. All of my preferences are lost, along with my workspace settings.
If I make adjustments, they will still be lost whenever I reboot my system.
To my knowledge, I have not made any recent software changes.
What did not work
I have been dealing with this for a couple of days now. I have done some research and thought I had found the solution in restoring the Photoshopfolder in my AppData to a previous version.
This has worked for two days and two system startups, but today Photoshop returned to its default settings again.
Please help
It is really frustrating and I just do not know all that much about fixing these kind of things.
I was hoping someone could please help me.

Answer #1
have you tried a later version of photoshop?
cs5 is out now,
the problem though, sounds like it’s a windows problem.
what other programs do you have that could be removing those files?
do you have boot problems? do you have a virus?
Answer #2
Thanks a lot for your reply!
I have not tried a later version of Photoshop. I have this version installed for about a year now and have not had this problem before. I also have no other programs of Adobe which I really use, so I don’t know if it is Adobe-related or Photoshop-related or Photoshop CS3-related. Do you think it could make a difference to just install a newer version?
I also don’t know if files are being removed. If so, which files would that be? The files in the AppData folder don’t appear to be removed. Do I also have to look in other places?
I do not have boot problems. To my knowledge, I also don’t have a virus. I use Norton AntiVirus and did a scan yesterday, which came out clean. That doesn’t have to mean anything, I know, but I haven’t done anything special and I have not had any problems with anything else.

Are you sure that they’re actually saved? Change your workspace, close Photoshop and open it again.
