Well, I use a program named VobSub and WinAVI Video Converter to hardcode subtitles onto a movie. If you want me to post a tutorial for you how to do that just say the word. If you don’t you can use this post to find the info you need:

I am wondering what you were really thinking about when you wrote this?Image
Just use ConvertXToDVD, easy to use and makes a better job at conversion than most other one click conversion programs.

lol that first bit you posted distracted me and I couldn’t keep my mind on anything else after that.
But why go to all the trouble of hard coding subtitles into an Avi (Mpeg4 ASP or XDiv/DivX) video? It means re-encoding the video which will take quite some time to do and at the end of it she will still most likely require a Computer to play them. So I can see no advantage to doing it. If you just keep the subs with the video, she can switch them on and watch it. Most DVD Mpeg4 stand alones can play subtitles and all PC’s can so it just does not seem worth all the time and effort to me.
If you are going to spend hours re-encoding a video just to add hard coded subtitles, why not convert it to DVD and have the optional subtitles on it? That would take about the same amount of time to do and be far more usable as it can be played on any commonly available DVD player.
Vobsub can be a real nuisance. It interferes with many media players that also try to display subtitles an it makes subtitleworkshop just about unusable.
It all seems a waste of time to me when you could just as easily be spending your time watching the videos using either the subtitle file or on DVD after conversion. How many girlfriends want to spend time at a PC watching a Movie when they would rather be sitting on a sofa watching the movie on DVD with their boyfriends?
