A few days after installing a Windows 7 I downloaded from here, the computer will not turn on after it has been off all night.
When I push the power button, it lights up, then the PC shuts back off. Each time I push it, it seems to load a little longer, until finally loading all the way.
At first it was 2-3 tries, but now it takes up to 14 tries!
Everything is the same as when purchased, except the ATI x1600 pci-e video card.
When the computer is powered up, I don’t see anything not functioning correctly
Thanks

Answer #1
when you turn it on and it restarts does it past post? if not start removing unecesary components and see if it makes a difference
Answer #2
a PC failing to turn on is not caused by Software.. it’s definitely hardware. it could be temps, also.. your RAM/PSU could be failing. run memtests, and check your Temps. what’s your CPU temp/GPU temp.
Answer #3
Yes does it turn off when Windows Starts to load or just after POST?
Answer #4
Turns off almost immediately after pushing the power button. It gets a little further each time I push it, until finally loading into windows.
Would system mechanic have the tools I need to view the temperature & run those memtests, or do you have another recommendation?
thanks
Answer #5
Sounds like CPU fan not attached properly? Thus overheating did you get from a shop? or online?

I purchased the computer from BestBuy a few years ago. Once the computer fully boots up all the fans seem to be running.
Answer #7
does you pc make beeping nosie at all if your pc beeps then it is hardware problem if it doesn’t then it software or the os that your installed didn’t installed properly
just listen to your pc case for the beeps
here a list what the beep are if your pc beeps
http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm
Answer #8
Nope, the computer doesn’t beep at all, makes all the normal noises it always has.
when I was trying to activate windows 7 I ran a lot of programs that supposedly affected the BIOS, a lot of them didn’t fix activation but 1 ended up working. Thats why I was wondering if it was those programs conflicting with the PC booting up.
Thanks
Answer #9
Its not a heat problem unless it boot up and runs for a few minutes, the crack does not infect the bios, its not a bios problem, wipe the drive,
not using windows format because its worthless, then install 7 and run it without cracking it,it it runs its the crack your using and you will have to get another one.
Answer #10
Try and enter via safe mode, if that does not work try a new install of windows if that dose not work check that the thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink has not dissipated.
Answer #11
Well I was hoping not to have to wipe, but I guess its better than having to spend $$ on hardware.
Since this PC is a AMD 64 Athlonx2 Should I get the 64bit windows 7? I’m currently using 32bit.
Answer #12
How much ram you got?
Answer #13
Only the 2GB it comes with, 512×4.
If I plan on upgrading later with 4 1GB sticks, would you recommend 64bit now, or should I wait?
Also, Instead of using windows to format, would Partition Magic be better?
Answer #14
Windows to format is fine, 64Bit only really worth it with 4GB of ram ;>
Answer #15
Ok, starting download now, will let you guys know how it goes!
Thanks a lot!
Answer #16
Waited a few days, but finally installed last night.
Unfortunately it didn’t resolve the issue. I’m starting to think it might actually be the cold, it seems like the colder it is, the more times I have to push the button to turn it on.
One person suggested I replace the power supply. I guess thats next.
Answer #17
actually it could be a BIOS problem.
you say you installed several programs that probably affected it.
these might have been modifiers to install SLIC 2.1 for Win7 but somehow corrupted BIOS.
you may try to fix it with original BIOS for your mobo.
but first make sure you really flashed BIOS.
