pc hangs 30 seconds before booting.

August 4th, 2016

Hey just wondering if anyone knows. My computer acts kinda funny after upgrading it a while back. (new fans, gpu, ram, hdd). it runs like a dream and rarely goes above 40*. Anyway.
when i press the power button i can hear it start up. Power runs through it. But no sound an no signal to the screen. Then after about 30 seconds i hear the pre- beep and it loads up normally. Just kinda puzzles me since there otherwise is no problem at all.

Try resetting the Bios..

You should update your uefi bios. It may be a compatibility problem when it loads the required parts.

Also – check your bios setting.
If it’s an Intel board then it might be trying to start-up devices that are not used – like third or fourth hard drive ports with their own controller, etc.
It sends the start-up and waits for a reply. The device then does it’s farting about and decides “hey, i have nothing” and sends a “nope, sorry” signal back.
I used to get a good 30-45 second start up time on my desktop board before disabling all the devices I didn’t use – start up time went to about 8-13 seconds after that.

Edit:
It might also be power supply – maybe something has to “warm up” before it’s working correctly. If you can, try an alternate PSU.

the most common cause of it , if you have plugged in any usb device (except keyboard+mouse) , especially an external hard drive from WD or any other brand , bios checks its contents at start up to see if there is anything bootable. that causes what you experience. if thats not the case , it would help us greatly if you tell when exactly this started to happen , after a specific event like bios tweaking or just after installing a specific hardware or smth else ?
edit : ah i didnt see that fluffy said a similar thing , i never encountered start-up delay with additional harddrive on sata ports but it can also happen. usb devices are more likely to cause your problem , so unplug any usb thing including keyboard and mouse before start up just to see if there is anything wrong with your usb slots.

Actually – I was talking about the opposite (no worries, mate – we covered all sides!)
You’re right about devices attached – usb drives and ESata stuff.. I was talking about unused ports or devices.. Like a JMicron controller when all your drives are on a Maxwell controller.
It still polls the JM controller and waits for a response – disable it at it won’t even look at the device.
Answer #6
bios –> wait for POST , alternatively you may have a 30-40 second wait time within your bios.
does the screen tell you anything while it is “booting” , or waiting for input ?
Answer #7
Screen does nothing for 30 seconds. Off to bed but will try all suggested stuff and reply back tomorrow
Answer #8
That is disc delay. go into your bios you will see disc delay, every bios is different so google your settings (shows on boot and inside bios). That is your disc delay, set to 5 ..also turn on “quick boot” in bios. .. peace
Answer #9
Tried changing the sata port and made some changes in the bios which seam to have reduced the wait time to about 5 seconds .Thanks guys.
