Computer Hangs after W7 Reinstall

August 23rd, 2013

I was having some problems with my internet speed so I decided to do a reinstall. Everything seemed to work great with regard to improving my internet connection. However, a week or two later I started getting system hangs.
Mostly when using browser or watching video. Whole thing just freezes sometimes and then comes back a few minutes later. When playing video it sounds like the speed has slowed to 10% percent or something.
This is just my office computer and the heaviest program I run is Sibelius i would imagine. It’s about 2 years old and has the following specs:
Core 2 Duo E7500 @2.93GHz
2 GB Ram (I tested 1.5 over night using memtest and it was fine)
W7 32 Bit (Legit)
MB is ASRock G41M-VS2
I also did a Scan Disk on the 500GB WD BLue dirve and it was fine. Mine is partitioned to 80GB for OS/Programs and the rest for files.
Don’t think I left anything out, but let me know and I’ll edit the post. Any help on how to trouble shoot this would be great. I need it for work on Monday and it sucks that it keeps hanging in front of clients
Cheers!

Answer #1
You may have a memory problem, run Memtest..
Answer #2
Maybe worth checking your video driver, it’s unlikely but video drivers can cause many issues so make sure it’s the latest. Also check if Windows 7 is fully up to date. A new install usually requires several checks for updates before all are done! There would initially be several hundred megs of updates after a clean install.
Answer #3
I already posted that I ran memtest and it’s fine.
Updates are all complete and I’m pretty sure my video is up to date. How do I confirm though?
Thanks:)

You should be able to get all the drivers from here, including the VGA driver if you are using on board graphics..

Cool Thanks I checked that and it seems I’m up to date as the VGA driver listed is older than mine.
….?
Just went through the event log and saw quite a few things like:
kernal-processor-power – Some processor performance power management features have been disabled due to a known firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware.
disk – The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR? (insert various numbers for ?)
EDIT: Watching my usage, I noticed that at least 1/2 my memory is in use with even one program open….?…weird?

That happened to me once, sometimes when I played a video my PC would suddenly hang. It was the video card and once I replaced it, it didn’t give me any more trouble.
