NVIDIA Shield or Nexus 9?
August 4th, 2016
The Shield is getting a Lollipop update so software-wise may not be much of a difference. I’m looking at the LTE version of both devices, so the Shield is retailing (much) cheaper at £300 compared to £459 for the Nexus. The Shield also comes with a stylus and a Micro SD slot. Just wondering if there is anything that could justify the price difference.
On a side note, if I decide to go for the Shield, should I wait until the Nexus 9 LTE is released, hoping for the price to drop? Thanks!
With the Nvidia Shield having been delayed SO many times before its release, I would have little confidence that updates for it would be much better. For the streaming part, well, nice to have to me doesn’t tilt the scales unless all else is equal.
If the 9 better than the Shield? http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Google-Nexus-9,Nvidia-SHIELD/phones/8926,8812

For me, the larger 8.9″ screen with the higher resolution would outweigh the microsd card slot the Shield has. The cameras on both are meah. The processors should by spec delivery pretty much similar speed.
As for waiting, you can always wait until next week for the latest and greatest tech. Delivery for the 9 LTE is well….just not known. They are taking pre-orders yes, but shipping is later than expected for even the orders on the Nexus 6, so I would expect the same delay on the 9. Don’t count on playing with it during Christmas
thanks for your input! i guess i will wait for Nexus 9 anyway, and see how it goes from there. UNLESS my hands are too itchy to press that “Buy It Now” button before that..
the Nexus 9 is good but for gaming? the nvidia shield pisses all over it. #justsayin’

Can I ask where it does this? All reviews I’ve read so far haven’t mentioned this.

the Nexus 9 is poor when it comes to gaming, it’s a basic android tablet. you can’t compare an android tablet to a gaming tablet.
if you’ve got a PS4. get the Z3 compact or wait until there’s a bigger screen coming out which is soon I heard.
read the reviews on the N9. screen on time around 5 hours and it gets REALLY warm when gaming.
it’s just not meant to be a gaming tablet. fact.
Shield is also android
That’s why it is getting the lollipop update.
The problem with the Shield is that it has plagued by delays, first on the hardware and on software updates. It uses the same processor Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and performance tests have shown the 9 and Shield are about the same.
not lowering myself to your standards.
yes, the shield is running android but it’s a pure gaming tablet. a Nexus 9 isn’t. end of.
if you want a gaming tablet; the shield is for you.
if you want a Internet browsing tablet with crappy battery life; the Nexus 9 is for you.
see ya and good luck.
Try playing a game on the Shield – I have. You’re lucky to get 5 hours on that too
Whatever marketing label hardware has stuck on it, does not make it ‘better’ than the alternatives.
Comparable hardware with same OS = same performance unless they have specifically tweaked something. And normally tweaks don’t provide a huge difference.
Anyhow, since the 9 isn’t widely available, this is all supposition.
