Not a computer Guru and could use assistance

August 6th, 2013

I know I am doing something wrong, but I don’t know what. I read a few of the beginner guides on here, but didn’t find what I was looking for.
I found a download for Quickbooks here. I downloaded the rar file and my ExpressZip opened to extract the six different files. Part 1 contained the setup.exe so I double clicked on that. A popup came up asking if I wanted to allow Intuit to access my hard drive, I said yes. The pop up went away, but nothing happened. I opened Part 2 and saw the same setup file, did the same thing … received the same popup and disappear.
Now I’m thinking, are all six files suppose to be together? I extracted all six together to a new folder, but they stayed zipped as separate files and did not extract together.
I know this is all making me sound major stupid … I have never done this before with multiply downloads, they have always been one file downloads that were easy …. any advice?

If the six files have the extensions: .001 – .002 – etc; then you need to join them first with a program like HJ-Split.
If the six files have the extensions: .r01 – .r02 – etc; then you need to join them with a program like WinRAR.
If the six files have the extensions: .rar or .zip – then you need to extract each one separately because they are “double packed” and each needs to be extracted twice.
Hope this helps.

the best thing to do is to select all and extract all. it will create one program. I recomend winrar or 7zip for this.

Thanks for the replies. they are all .rar but still not working properly following Smitty’s suggestion. I am going to try to find a better unzipping program …. =)

I thought that I was going to have to accept the fact that I wasn’t smart enough to do this. Using WinRar simplified everything for me and I am good to go. THANK YOU both for your help!

A lot of times you will find people saying “join this file with hjsplit” or some other app – when all you really need to do is either have WINRAR extract it, or open the first file with WINRAR and extract from there. Same can be acheived with 7-zip (I keep both).
