netbook won’t turn on anymore

July 31st, 2016

Hi,
I have a netbook of MSI (some kind of 12 incher) and the problem is if you turn it on, then the fan works and it sounds like it’s going to work but nothing comes on the screen.
A little led is turned on (the sleepmodus led).
I tried removing the batt and also removing the mobo batt. None works.
Is the laptop dead? Any ideas?

Answer #1
Try plugging the laptop to an external monitor..
Answer #2
What OS are you running? Does it normally play a sound when it boots?

Thanks man, I just tried it. Gives the same result.

It’s running Windows 7. Usually no sound when it boots.
I think I found what the problem is, however I need to examine it. The problem is that it does not recognize that the screencover is open, so it stays ‘closed’ and sleeps/hybernates.
I’ll update as soon as I have more information.

Remove / replace RAM.
Answer #5
If that’s true, than i would guess its the motherboard Is it still under warranty?
Answer #6
To be honest i don’t think it’s the “sleep sensor (button)”, first if you have warranty go and request service check, if you don’t have warranty try to remove RAM, clean it, put it back in and try.. If you have 2 RAM slots try one and than another.. It’s a netbook, so gpu is integrated, please let me know what kind of cpu and gpu is in there and how old is the notebook (did you clean it from dust and replaced the thermal paste)..
Answer #7
First of all thanks for your ideas and feedback.
It’s an MSI 12 inch U250
It is not under warranty anymore.
I changed RAM. Displaced it too. Also removed mobo battery and replaced it.
I’m not sure which gpu or cpu this is.u250 MS-1244
The netbook is 3 or 5. Yeqrs old.
I did not replqce thermql paste. There is no significant dust. Looks clean.
I havent found tany detailed information about this netbook, such as placement of the hybernate sensor.
Sorry for typos. I’m on my mobile.

I assumed you’ve removed HDD too? Sometimes CD tray could also do this ( I’ve had it happen a couple of times) so remove that too. If everything fails it’s probably your mobo, sometimes could be a bad capacitor, else replacement is the only solution.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes I did remove the hdd too. The netbook has no cd tray. Thanks for the tip. I’ll see what i can do.
Did someone perhaps found a detailed manual? For example explaining parts such as the modules etc… (want to findout how the sensor works).

You connected an external monitor. You should get signal from there regardless of hibernation state, lid etc. If you didn’t then it’s most likely something else, probably your mobo, sorry.
