Help with ConvertXtoDVD! DVD-R’s not playing anymore!

August 7th, 2016

This has never happened to me before with ConvertXtoDVD. I could always burn DVD’s with ease. No matter what type of file it was; avi or mkv or mp4…. anything, it didn’t matter, it would always burn to the DVD-R and play in my DVD player… now all of the sudden, NOTHING! I haven’t changed ANYTHING other than upgrading to the new version (which at the time was 5.0.0.75 i believe). Now I uninstalled that version and went to the 5.1.0.2 and am hoping it will all work out for the best.
But if you guys have ANY insight on this, please let me know because I’ve never had any issues burning ANY file types to DVD before using this program and now, the last 5 DVD’s I’ve burnt have not been able to play. ConvertXtoDVD says the files were burned successfully, yet whenever I put them into my DVD player as I normally do, they don’t play. I just don’t get it. Do all files HAVE to be AVI or something? Please let me know or provide some insight on why this is happening… thank you sooo much!

Answer #1
Have you tested them in a different player? Maybe your burner or player is going bad.
Answer #2
Yea actually I tested them in 3 different players and they didn’t play… however the ones I burnt before that did work.. I just don’t get it. I thought it must have to do with them being mkv or mp4 files rather than avi’s… but that doesn’t make sense because I have never had problems converting and burning ANY video files with ConvertXtoDVD before. Weird. Now I’m going to try to burn only AVI files using the NEW version 5.1.0.2 and see what happens.

What’s the brand of blanks you’re using. Software doesn’t just “break” like that. Sounds like your player doesn’t like the brand of blanks you’re using (anymore), combined that with the fact that it’s -R’s?
Answer #4
ConvertX will do avi’s, mp4’s and mkv’s. Some don’t like new versions, i’d suggest going back to version 4’s. You could also try Freemake converter as it does similar to ConvertX. You could always give it a try just to see if they play ok, as if not then it’s hardware most likely and not software.

I’ve tried using Memorex AND Sony blank DVD’s… check this out… here is how it goes step by step after I burn a DVD and put it in my DVD player on my computer….
step 1:
my computer recognizes it as a DVD

step 2:
here is my DVD-Rom recognizing it as a DVD

step 3:
here is what it looks like when i right click on the D: DVD and choose “explore”… it has 2 folders.. audio_ts and video_ts

step 4:
every SINGLE dvd player app on my computer either freezes or crashes when I try to play it… same with at home dvd player… Image
I have NEVER had any problems burning DVD’s before and this time I only tried to burn AVI files. When ConvertXtoDVD finished it said it had completed successfully and spit the DVD out of my burner as it always had in the past. I mean, I literally burnt 2 movies 3 days ago successfully and they play on my computer and on my DVD player at home with no issues… now this is happening and I don’t get it… does anyone has ANY insight on to why/how this is happening and what I can possibly do?
Answer #6
Use ConvertX to make a DVD but just write it to the hard drive without burning it.
Try WMPlayer and see if it will play OK.
If it does, then it would appear to be a burning problem….You could try burning the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders you have made to a DVD using IMGburn or Nero….But chances are you have a faulty burner.
Answer #7
I’d say it’s all in the new version.
It might be using the codec in a different manner than media player likes (it might require stricter compression and the new version uses slacker GOPs, for e.g.).
I can’t say I like v5 anyway, it a bit crap compared to v4.

Well.. i tried to use a new program.. the Freemake converter mentioned above and I get the SAME problems… Freemake says it was burned successfully and then I try to play the DVD and i get nothing but problems… Maybe it IS my DVD burner after all since even other programs are saying it was done perfectly only to give me problems…. damnit!
Answer #10
Yes it looks likely, not software problem by looks of it.

Ahh, in that case I revise my opinion and say it’s likely the burner then.
Maybe the laser is dying, not burning deep enough or straight enough.
New burners are cheap.
You can test – if you don’t mind wasting a dvd.
Burn a few files, anything, back up a tiny bit of your porn collection.
Use ImgBurn and burn about 2 gig as a data disc.
Make sure ImgBurn is set to “verify” and see if it verifies OK, then open that dvd in windows explorer and see if all the files are OK.
