MSN problem

August 5th, 2016

Hey everyone, I am having a really annoying problem with MSN live messenger. I open the program, it signs me in automatically as usual and for a few seconds I see my normal screen of online contacts but very quickly Vista tells me that “msn has stopped working” and asks me to shut it down! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I am running into the same problem =[
Answer #1
have you tried to run it as administrator? Right-click your msn icon on your desktop, and try run as administrator. If this works, you can make it use this every time in properties.
Answer #2
Dam, just tried running it as admin but still getting the same problem! Any help?
Answer #3
Which version are you using? I’m using 8.1 on Vista and it works fine.
Answer #4
I am not sure but it must be the latest because I have just downloaded it and reinstalled
Answer #5
It could be because DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is blocking it.
You could try this.
– Go to control panel
– Go to system
– choose advanced system properties
– choose advanced and then performance settings – choose DEP
– Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select. And then add MSN
Answer #6
It isn’t letting me add msn, saying that it must be on!
Answer #7
Another possibility:
On your desktop, rightclick the msn icon, choose properties, and in compatability, choose XP service pack 2.
Answer #8
Oh no! That didn’t work either!
Answer #9
Dunno about this, but it seemed to work for some people on another forum:
– Click start
– Type: cmd
– Right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications
– Click Run As Administrator
– Type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
– Press enter
– Restart your computer
Good luck!

Heh, windows live messenger really blows. I reinstalled my PC a couple of days ago. I assume I’ve got the latest version, it worked fine for a while. Now I just can’t connect to their server. In the end it offers to troubleshoot the problem by making an internet connectivity test, once it completes I still can’t connect.
Fudge it.. I’m staying with GTalk and Skype.

I used to have some problems with WLM as well, specifically frequent disconnections which really pisses me off! As a result, I had uninstalled it and installed the old version, MSN Messenger 7.5! That works as a charm!
Answer #14

Any idea where I can get it? I mean, from the official site you can only get the latest version

But, the program would “FORCE” you to upgrade to WLM in order to continue. After installing MSN Messenger 7.5, just go to C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger > right click on msnmsgr.exe > Properties > Compability > Tick the Run this program in compability mode for and select Windows 2000.
That’s all.
