MPEG-2 in 720p,
February 7th, 2020
See if there’s a FW update to enable your TV to play mpeg4 videos, or if you can connect an mpeg4 decoder to it. Else just convert movies from here using SUPER, which should be really fast (get movies ripped with the h264 codec):

Notes:
1) Be careful during Super installation. It’s packed with a ton of bloatware (at least it was when I last used it looong time ago).
2) You ‘ll experience a big quality difference after converting.
720p
720p = 1280×720
mpeg2 movies in that format will be huge compared to mpeg4 (h/x264 mkv mp4)
mpeg2 does not compress as well a mpeg4
that’s why mpeg4 was created
so as jack suggests D/L’ing the MP4 or MKV version and converting to mpeg2 is the way to go
MPEG4 is the preferred format for devices, as it yields a file that is under 1G for most full length movies. This is a far cry from MPEG2, which can only produce files with five times the size. Storing MPEG2 files will not be a problem on DVDs, as the usual DVD capacity is over 4GB, but is a major issue with portable devices. MPEG4 also made it practical to buy and download videos online, as MPEG2 videos are quite large, and take a long time to download. The small file size of MPEG4 files directly translates to a lower bandwidth needed, when streaming recorded or real-time videos through the internet.

weird tv it should be able to play avi
Any appz i can use to convert file to mpeg and a little bit faster aswell.
Are you sure the TV doesnt play any other video files? It will most likely play .mp4’s at the very least .avi’s
Try downloading a small video (maybe a movie sample) in both avi and mp4 and try them both.
Whats the make/model of the TV?
Sony Bravia KLV 40bx400.
^ it seems like a good TV but i dont understand why it cant play other video files. It would be very difficult finding movies in mpeg 1 or 2 on the net and it’ll take ages to convert each time you want to watch a movie. You’re better of buying a new TV if you watch movies on a regular basis and would like to watch em on a TV
All you need is a Media Player, then you can play all formats, no problems.
Some will do live streaming video as well.
Here is a WD.

Or here is one that just plays your movies off a USB stick or portable HDD.
