mouse double clicking malfunction

Does anyone know how to fix this infuriating thing when your mouse spontaneously starts double-clicking everything?! Things flicker when you click them, open and close when you didn’t mean to, selections just disappear.
I have an HP laptop with vista on it (yes quite old don’t go on about it…). It seems the touchpad is ok, and the wireless mouse is where the problem is. The general mouse definitions seem ok, but I couldn’t find any definitions or uninstalling options for the wireless mouse itself (doesn’t require software installation). Changing usb ports made no difference.
If anyone knows how to fix this or even reboot the little bugger I will happily bear your children or clean your house if you already have some

Yes it can be repaired by replacing the switch under the button..
But it’s not worth it..Maybe it’s time for a new mouse..
