minidisc problems
August 14th, 2023
I tried HMD Render, and it tells me that it can’t convert the files because they’re either from an old version of SonicStage or a different PC (my vote is for a different computer – my old one crashed and I was kinda counting on being able to transfer the music from the minidisc). Grrrrrr…
Please, use the EDIT button instead of double posting!

I have an mz nh600d minidisc player that's gotten... a little bit quirky (I suppose getting left out all night in a rainstorm will do that...). I'm getting ready to abandon it, but the SonicStage software won't recognize that the damn thing is plugged in so I can get my music off! Windows still recognizes it as a mass storage device, so I can copy the *.hma files that I assume have my music onto my hard drive, but how do I convert the .hma's into mp3s?
wouldnt the easiest thing to do is get a loan anorther minidisc player and put the discs into that?
It might be because SonicStage needs updating. I had same problem. I just went on SonicStage’s website and downloaded a upto date download.

I tried updating SonicStage, it didn’t help. Damn you, Sony DRM! I’m about to give up, chuck the thing in the bin and try to download the music I lost.
what about transferring in real time? maybe to your pc or an mp3 player with a mic-input

And this is where we drift into territory I’m not sure I’m comfortable in. Audio stuff is really not my thing, and I honestly think it would be easier to just download everything lost than futz around with microphones and software.

it probably would be. even if you found a way to convert hma you would lose qualiiy by converting from hma to mp3
Having said that if you have song on your minidisc that are hard to get on mp3 i would consider using audacity to re-record them
