Microphone Problem

August 4th, 2016

Well to start off i’d like to post my specs
Quad Core Q6600 3.0 ghz OC
nVidia 8800GT OC
4gb RAM
600W PSU
Realtek ALC889A Sound Card
So when i plug in a mic and run a test to see if it works the mic produces a tapping noise (as if someone is tapping a mic with a finger or hand)
This problem was here ever since my dad experimented with a guitar and tried to create an amplifier of a computer (he didn’t make it lol)
So,what i want to know is if the problem is something fixable (software or something like that) or is the sound card faulty in some way P.S. the mic can’t be the problem because it works on my dad’s laptop

Answer #1
bump…please help
Answer #2
What is the device manager saying about the device? Too be honest it sounds like the card is gone!
Answer #3
the tapping sound stop if you mute the mic ?
try uininstalling you audio device in device mgr
then reboot and let windows reinstall it
Answer #4
what do you mean by delete it in device manager? Sound works great…but recording…meh :/
Answer #5
what do you mean by delete it in device manager? Sound works great...but recording...meh :/
both are run by the same software
so if it’s not a mic prob it’s software or other hardware, like the sound card
removing and reinstalling will eliminate or show software as the culprit
Answer #6
perhaps reinstall drivers, maby try a different device manager, or even try onboard ports if you have them
tbh im fishing in the dark, bit of a strange situation
Answer #7
yea this problem is really unique..lol well the sound card is onboard so i can’t do anything with it…..i’ll try uninstalling and see if it helps
Answer #8

This problem was here ever since my dad experimented with a guitar and tried to create an amplifier of a computer (he didn't make it lol)

Did he plug the guitar into the mic input or the line input?
Even though a guitar puts out less than line level signal, it could easily be well above the level that the mic input can handle.
Answer #9
so you think that the guitar has fried the mic input?? interesting.
btw uninstalling didn’t work,and i can’t install the AC’97 drivers
