Lost Admin Rights – Solved

February 7th, 2020

So long story short I wanted to re enable the password for Windows 8.1 because i had used netplwiz. But once going there and just re ticking the box to say use a password and rebooting its now logged me in as a user instead of an admin which I had previously.
Now whenever I try something admin I get a greyed out yes option.
How does one get back to Admin without reinstalling Windows?
Thank you

You might be able to try the following
A) Boot into safe mode, enable the built-in Administrator, sign out, and sign in to Administrator.

Cant use anything in windows that relates to me accessing something higher than a user. So things like UAC require an admin to use, the yes is greyed out.
You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to open an elevated command prompt.

if you followed the isntructions above, it shouldnt be an issue?
Try this then, at your own risk maybe?
Press WinKey + Q, type user accounts and click on the result.
Then select your User Account > Click Manage another account.
In the following window, click Add a user account option.
Now we have to create a local account user. So after clicking Add an account, click Sign in without a Microsoft account (Not recommended), then click Local account. Fill the details on the screen so appeared for adding local account. Click Finish when done.
Press Windows Key + Q and type cmd, for the search results, click Command Prompt. Type following command and hit Enter key:
shutdown /r /o
The previous step will result your system to boot into Safe Mode. After getting into Safe Mode, press Windows Key + Q, type user accounts, and pick the same from results so appear. You would have now two accounts on your system; first your issued admin account and second the local account which you’ve created previously.
Select local account.
Now click “Change the account type: link in following window:
Change the account status from Standard to Administrator. Click Change Account Type.
In this way, the new local account we’ve created has been changed to Administrator. Now you can restart you machine and log into this account with administrator rights. Since you have administrative privileges now; so you can backup your documents from the old administrator account.
Finally, delete the old admin account and switch to Microsoft account to synchronize your settings with new administrative account. Your system will now act normally with full admin rights in your hand.

I’ve reinstalled windows. Just so you know I had no right access to Admin, so I cant use anything that is related to an admin, UAC wont work, User accounts wont work, they all require access for an admin to do something more.
Reinstalling windows took 5 mins, thankfully the specs made it quick otherwise i’d still be waiting, thank you for your assistance.
