Laptop keeps doing forced-shutdown
August 8th, 2016
Right now the problem’s relapsing because I’m using Xilisoft DVD Ripper Ultimate, Bitripper and other DVD ripping software. I was told a while back that Earth Eternal shuts my laptop down forcibly because of some kind of problem with the RAM and how it needs replacing or an upgrade, and I’m going to assume the same with DVD rippers. I can definitely see that these things are intensive on the processor, and I realize that my laptop’s been running at full capacity for extended periods of time in many occasions, one such occasion happening in a very humid country where it’s 30 degrees celsius everytime, but even so it still crashes even though I put it on low priority. The other strange thing is that when it’s winter, it doesn’t pull off this stupid stunt, so I’m assuming it’s also got something to do with the temperature needing to be low for it to withstand the RAM and processor overworking.
I’ve asked some people about this but their suggestions have been either extremely unhelpful or dubious in nature:
– Virus
– Too many programs installed
– Too stupid to work out his own laptop/to buy the “right” piece of hardware/etc (somewhat true considering i’m very computer-illiterate)
What should I do? I already found out that there’s NO way for me to disable this idiotic option, and this laptop is really the only thing that pulls this off. The old computer I once used has only 25% of this thing’s capabilities, yet it’s only dead because of an actual BSOD.
For reference, my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525, Vista Home basic 32-bit, 2Ghz and 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD with 5GB free.
Cheers.
buy a compressed air “spray” or how is it called…
Blow the dust out of the grill in the laptop (turn it around)
I’m asuming the cpu is overheating due to no fresh air can come through.
Also check if the fan is turning when you run your laptop (you can see it spinning at the bottom of your laptop).
This does sound like what Azzaro is saying. Laptops have a fail safe built in for over heating. If the temperature gets too hot and the fan is at max capacity it will just shutdown. This happens especially in 3D games. Support the front of your laptop with two rubbers or a pack of cards.

Now that you mention it, the fan on mine is also at the bottom of my laptop and the air coming out of its grills are completely blocked by the surface its sitting on since I’m using a small lap-sized table to keep my arms a bit more forward when typing. I thought the grill at the back of the laptop was the fan, but I take it it’s some sort of heat outtake thing?
I’ll try using DVD Ripper Ultimate doing what suggested. My laptop’s quite wide and heavy, so it’s going to be tricky…
A laptop should ALWAYS be on an hard surface and with some space behind it so it can push hot air out.
Good luck
