Keyboard stopped working

October 15th, 2017

My keyboard stopped working for no reason that I can tell.
I restarted and tried couple different boards but still not working.
The boards in question are pretty standard, plug into the round purple keyboard port.
However my usb keyboard works fine.
When I checked the device manager with a standard board plugged in, the keyboard does not show up in the list.
It’s like the computer no longer recognises the keyboard port.
Any ideas as to what I could do to fix this?
I am using Windows 8 and till this have had no problems

If your know what your doing you can open up the PC and check to see if the port is still connected to the Motherboard, I had a problem a bit back where my front panel ports weren’t working and it turns out the connection had come loose somehow. If you do open it up and everything is connected just fine the port is more than likely dead.

plug into the round purple keyboard port.
This is called a PS2 port.
When I checked the device manager with a standard board plugged in, the keyboard does not show up in the list.
You mean you’ve attempted to hot-plug the PS2 keyboard after the OS has loaded or that you
powered up the computer with both keyboards (USB too) plugged in? PS2 ports don’t support
hot-plugging as far as I know, So the first way wouldn’t work.
Any ideas as to what I could do to fix this?
First thing you should do is determine if this is a Hardware or an OS problem.
Try entering the BIOS with it, If you can, Then that would indicate your OS is at
fault. If you can’t, Then it’s either a BIOS misconfiguration or a fried PS2 port/ Capacitor near it.
Try resetting your BIOS as explained here:

If that doesn’t do the trick, Then the answer is obvious!

It’s a fairly new pc,hate to think the port would come undone somehow from the MB.
Nope,I did not attempt to hot-plug the PS2 boards.I shut down and rebooted each time I switched them.
And I didn’t plug the USB board in until I had tried the 2 other PS2 boards I had.
I will try the BIOS thing, thank you.
I should have thought of that….
