Is vista supposted to auomatically defrag it self when idle?

January 25th, 2020

Hey, I turned my pc on today, (vista).
And i admit, I left the thing alone, Unattended and without proper adult supervision for about 30-60 minutes, then when i come back to it, To my surprise i notice that the temperature which the CPU was reading, was not that of a normal idle temperature, So i looked in task manager only to see that the dam thing is Defraging it self!
this is the first time i think this has ever happened to me… and id just like to ask: WHY!?
I have an app called “Tuneup utilities” It has a cleanup feature where it can automatically assess your pc and defrag it, but i have the defrag part turned off, and its not meant to run that cleanup process today anyway, so i think i can rule that out.
Did Microsh1t make windows automatically defrag it self in Service pack 2 or something?

Answer #1
I dont think it is supposed to do that. And Tuneup might be causing your problem
Answer #2
was there someone who could have accessed it during the 30-60 mins while you were away?
i don’t think vista defrags it self by default.
Answer #3
Iv figured it out, Windows vista has an annoyingly hard to find defragmenter tool, which i only managed to ever find by typing “defrag” into the vista start “search” bar, but i could not find it anywhere in the bloody control panel? wtf is up with that?
Anyway, vista automatically defrags because of a set schedule.
Answer #4
i found vista very disappointing, too high requirements for when it came out, too many problems, i dont think the software developers gave a damn, glad you solved your problem though
Answer #5
it should not defrag on idle!!!
the best solution i can gave you is change to windows 7 or win XP
Answer #6
With my Vista Ultimate. System defragmentation is enabled to run every wednesday. (I didnt set it)
Was set by default with no input from me….
Answer #7
wait wait, i thought i solved it, but the defrag process still seems to start even though iv turned off the scheduled defraging?
Can anyone help with this please.
