i went to install it on a 320 GB HDD and it said there where no HDD’s in my computer, when i know there is
so is it true? can you not install windows xp on a HDD that is more than 160 GB?
thanks
Nope not true, doesn’t really matter how big your drive is. But it has to be big enough for Windows to fit on there.
arghhhh coz i installed it on a HDD with no problems and then i tried on a 320 GB and it said there where no HDD’s
Only thing that matters is. if you have more then 7.99 gigabytes of ram you need 64 bit OS.
You could always partition your drive that way it would be smaller then 320 in total. I am using a 320 GB HDD and its working fine, but I have XP on a partition.
The issue with Xp was that prior to service pack 1 (or maybe SP2? dont remember) you can only have 128GB per partition. It shouldnt stop the OS from seeing your drive if its larger though. Not sure what is causing that to happen for you.
If it is a SATA drive, XP might not have the proper drivers to load the HDD during install. That would be the first place I checked.
thanks everyone

not only was this not the question asked, back on xp, more than 3gigs was not utilised, if you had more you may get up to 3.33 despite having 4gigs.
back@thread: i did not know about the limit of sp1 or prior, i’m very glad they fixed that before the release of vista because the second i got my vista computer, it was straight to xp

It wasnt off topic because i was stating that hard drives dont have a limit on the OS but ram and processor do. if that makes since. So 32bit ram limit is 3.33gbs? I thought it was 8
