Is this smart?

February 2nd, 2020

Hey guys,
I have a printer here (Lanier 5513 (comparable with the 5515/5518) and a Router (Netgear WPN824v2). I want to make the printer wireless available thru the router. Easy solution I guess.. But we have a problem.
I wasn’t been able to let them detect eachother. When I plugged a UTP cable in the Ethernet port of the Printer and the other end in the router, on non of the devices was a LED light showing up which would mean ‘connected’ as it normally does when I connect my PC with it by LAN.
I came to the thought, which others also confirmed: The ETHERNET port on the printer is BROKEN.
Any other thoughts about this?
I tried changing the IPs and configuring on both the static IP, not working. I connected the printer DIRECTLY to my computer by Ethernet, but my pc was not even giving a bleep such as ‘new device detected’, which it normally does, I suppose?
So my idea of this is: It has a parallel port (such very wide port) and I wanna adapt it to an Ethernet port(just like vga to HDMI), such as it already has, but this one will be working. then connect it to the router, and as I suppose: It should be working correctly and sending the printer signal wireless.
Will only be doing when there are no idea’s how to solve the above named problem
Am I right?
Are there any Idea’s?
Any other Solutions?
Thanks in advance!

It’s entirely possible that your printer needs some sort of intermediary device between it and the LAN. If you plugged it directly in to your PC, it wouldn’t detect any new hardware because of the way it works.

You mean a driver?
The only thing I want to confirm is that the Ethernet port on the printer is broken, or not.

Oh I see. Well is there anything on the printer’s menu that shows some sort of reference to using it via the ethernet port?

Nope, the only thing i can change within the network menu is:

    IP Adres
    Subnet Mask
    Gateway IP

I assume you’ve set all those things to the relevant values. That’s about all the testing you can do, it would seem that the ethernet port has gone.

If anyone else has a great idea, let me know for sure!
