Is downloading TV illegal?

February 4th, 2020

Do you guys think downloading TV is illegal? For instance:
Example 1 : You download, watch then delete.
Example 2: You download, watch and keep.
Are they both illegal? Or is the first one legal. I mean its the same as watching it on tv. You watch it for free on tv and then you dont keep it. Or if you keep it its like you Tivoed it.
Im confused so any help or opinions would be much appreciated.

Im pretty sure its ok to do both. Its just like recording something with your VCR (for those who remember what they are lol) and thats certainly not illegal. To distribute and show in other places is maybe a different story, im not sure.
If im wrong someone please correct me
::EDIT:: Woops i read wrong I think I was thinking you meant recording a show on your comp from the TV, but your talking about downloading a show off the net. Hmmm, not too sure, I dont really have 2 cents on that one
Answer #2
if you watch the adds it’s probably legal otherwise not so legal
but the main point is sharing them over the net, if you don’t do that no one will bother you
Answer #3
Laos in some countries, ur allowed to watch them but have to delete em as soon as ur done
In others ur allowed to keep them but not share them over the internet
Answer #4
It’s probably legal compare to movie cuz it had been broadcasted on Local TV for Free.

Even though this might sound weird, all comments above are wrong and it is actually illegal to download tv shows. I had a friend that lost one of his dedicated servers because he downloaded an episode of the tv show “House” via a public torrent that happened to be monitored by the FOX television network. The server was 10 days away from expiring, but he still got no refund and the server was never returned. It is no less illegal to download a movie than a TV show, although it is true that the LEA tend to go after movie/music release groups more than TV/Pron. Thats why TV shows still get deleted from upload sites.

Answer #7
many of the US TV shows sell the dvds after it has been shown on tv for money so i think its illegal to watch and keep

It’s illegal in a way. TV programs and movies are copyright protected. Just keep it for personal use and don’t sell it.

Basically everything you download is illegal, unless it’s public domain stuff.
