Is DDR3 Much Better?

August 22nd, 2013

I have 8GB DDR2 in my rig 4GB of it recently purchased. I could buy some 8GB DDR3 1600mhz from Amazon as it’s on offer… but I don’t feel like spending more money just for a bit of speed. So is it much faster or shall I save my pennies and ignore my OCD?
Answer #1
It is noticeable faster, but really depends what you’re doing.
For everday use, and watchin HD videos, ddr2 is fast enough, but for things like gaming, DDR3 wins hands down.
Answer #2
I think most people still get by on 2gb, but if your gaming or doing something else intensive with your pc, then it may be good.
But most people just do not use that amount of ram, or need it. If you do, then go for it.
Answer #3
most mobos only support one type of memory
if now using DDR2, DDR3 won’t work unless you have a slot designed for DDR3 and it’s supported by you mobo
Answer #4
My Mobo can support DDR2 and 3, my main use for my PC is gaming so speed is always good. As long as its noticeable and not a matter of numbers.
Answer #5
I’d say stick with what you have
but try googling “<your mobo model> DDR2 vs DDR3”
and see if you can find someone who’s tried it
Answer #6
Good idea, cheers:)
