IE7 Stopped Working After Uninstalling GhostSurf…
August 5th, 2016
I purchased and downloaded GhostSurf 2005 yesterday. Was really disappointed with it – slowed my internet connection and the webpages never registered as fully loaded.
So I subsequently uninstalled it, and now Internet Explorer 7 browser doesnt work, displaying the message “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” even though I can use other browsers fine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE7, unchecking the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” box under Internet Options -> Connection -> Lan Settings, disabling firewall, virus/spyware scan, even registry scan, contacting them but with no luck (it is definitely due to GhostSurf because I temporarily reinstalled it and IE immediately worked again!).
Only possible thing I can think of is that the Spybot internet options protection has somehow prevented IE returning to the default setup after uninstall?… Please, please help because IE is my primary browser!

It seems as though GhostSurf has taken a necessary file. Try uninstalling IE7 and redownloading it.

This was the first thing I tried – didnt work. Some of the core files are still left in the Internet Explorer folder under Program Files, which I guess is whats causing the problem.

Thanks especially for this reply…sounded like this was gonna work…sadly not. Exact same problem remains.
Arrah GhostSurf is so crap! My final idea is to uninstall IE7 using Add/Remove programs as before, then manually delete all the files remaining in the Internet Explorer folder using HjackThis (since theyre protected), then reinstall completely fresh copy. Or is this potientially dangerous to my PC since IE seems to be an integral part of Windows?
Thanks.
Switching to FireFox or Opera wud be better m8…….since its highly integrated, removal of IE may eventually lead to a complete REINSTALLATION…….
or u can try the system file checker if u have the CD with u…….
Do a system restore.

heh well the simpliest solutions are usually the best…tried this and it worked! Was bit warry of using System Restore in the past as it seemed like a bit of a ‘messy’ solution, but everything else seems to be working fine too, and havent lost any important files. Well done Microsoft! Thanks!
ı thınk ghost have fırewall so change the fırewall settıngs..
Switch to firefox
read my sig
I do use Firefox as well and am a big fan of it, but Ive got it set up in a specfic way to handle specific websites using the extensions/plug-ins etc.
So for general browsing I just stick to IE7 (it also handles my email/bank account websites better too).
Also I do some webdesign so I need to check it works fine in IE too.
I appreciate all the replies.
dude!
ghostsurf replaces the proxysettings automatically and when you uninstall the ghostsurf proxysetting is in ie but the proxy is away this is the solution!
ie–>ghostsurf–>internet ie–>proxy–>internet
ie–>no ghostsurf –x–>internet ie(will connect to the proxy first)–>no proxy–x–>internet
but the others know–>only use FIREFOX!
go to ie>>options>>connection tab>>lan settings>>and delete the proxy info (127.0.0.1 port 7212)
and yea use FIrefox!!!
beat me to it. Just set it to auto-detect proxy settings or use direct connection if that’s the case.
holy crap, this thread is a year old and was bumped back up
Actually it got bumped in June… then again in December… weird…
