IDM multiple file download slows down everything

I use IDM to dl rapidshare files.. If i download multiple files at the same with lets say 1,8 mb/s each (limited), which really isnt much thinking that i can download 6,0mb/s at full speed.. anyway.. when i do that, it really goes to ~love~, programs disconnect from the internet and i cant use browsers at all, but IDM downloads..
However if i download 1 file at a time only, with like a limit at 4,5 MB/s everything else works perfectly fine….
Is anybody else have this so i should contact the idm team, or is it just me?

It always happens to me too. But instead, this happens to me using a P2P software. You cannot do anything about it. I personally don’t download during the day, but I make a long list of downloads and I let them download during the night. It is quicker to me, but it might also damage your computer letting it on for 24 hours.
Too many connections, files are splited into many parts and then joined together…
Try to set one connection per file so that you avoind file joing (file will be downloaded into one “piece”)

I leave my computer downloading for weeks without giving it a break? Maybe a fast reboot and start the downloads right after and it’s running smoothly. ( For a desktop PC that is )
But for a laptop, yeah it would damage it.
The more connections, the less internet bandwidth Windows can allocate to other programs.

Errrmm am I missing something here? You have a 6mb connection, and you’re surprised your browsers don’t work when you have IDM using all 6mb? If that wasn’t bad enough, you go on to say that at using 4.5mb of your connection allows you to do other things at once…? I thought that would be obvious…. 6-4.5 = 1.5mb still left for browsing in other applications!
