I want to reformat my laptop but…

January 21st, 2020

Title says the main problem.. here are the things that’s bugging me..
1.) The OS that came with my laptop is a Genuine Windows Vista Hope Premium x64 and I want to change it to Windows 7 Ultimate x64.. Is that possible? If so, what happens to the Windows Vista that was originally put there.. (I’m gonna do a clean format)
2.) I don’t have a CD/DVD of the Windows Vista and the Drivers that came with my laptop but I do have the legit CD-KEY of the Windows Vista it has here a burner that can burn me the Default Factory OS and the drivers and applications, but just in case, are there places that I can look for these drivers/OS?
and last..
3.) Are there any advice/s you can give me before I do the reformat?
EDIT: Sorry, I’m kind of a big fat noob when it comes to this things.. )

Answer #1
Your legit key is working for Vista Home Premium only – if you’re going to reinstall Vista again you can activate it.
Yes, it’s possible to install Windows 7.
Usually there should be a folder with all needed drivers on the hard drive. But you don’t really have to backup all your drivers since you can get them on the manufacturer’s site (also for different operating systems).
Backup all your own, private data, settings, favorites etc. before formating.

1. Your Vista will gone, since u format the partition, But the key is still usable later. Since ur laptop support vista x64, i bet it will support w7 x64
2. Usually the driver is located at C:\Swsetup\. backup it if its there.
3. Backup all the thing. Make sure u know how to format a pc lol
Answer #3
You should back up your vista activation first. Get a file called abr.zip, to backup your vista activation, so if you want to use vista again you can.
On win 7 i am sure if you can run vista you can run win7, i would after clearing all the hard drive, and getting my backup of activation, i would zero out the drive, or just format the whole drive with hiren boot cd, and then make new partitions, and then install win7.

I’m gonna check C:\Swsetup\ maybe tomorrow.. pretty tired after school today lol..
And I do know how to reformat.. I’m just used to a PC without operating system that came with it (I can choose my own. YAY!) but not with the laptop which gives me the mindset that whatever came with it stays with it.. FOREVER.. lol.. cheers to those who helped and will be helping..

Here’s another question if u don’t mind… would the laptop functions (like the FN+right key = higher volume) still be there or there are drivers for those functions?
Answer #6
Those keys may or may not work, though chance of them working are higher.

If you have restore CD its only for restoring computer to factory settings and requires restore partition its usually 10GBs big or so. If you delete the restore partition your restore CD is useless crap cuz it only has essential things not the full OS, the full OS is in the recovery partition. What i would do if i was you be a dual boot that way you can try out both OSes know which one you want to keep for sure. Get bootmanager such as EASYBCD (freeware) and then make space for your Windows 7 (i recommend at least 35GB partition but you can make it bigger maybe 100GB big if you plan to install games in it). Then install Windows 7. Or as long as you dont delete your recovery partition you should be fine with deleting your Vista and installing just 7. Otherwise installing Vista from clean using your OEM key might work and might not work. You will have to call M$ if it doesnt activate.
