I want to buy a tablet

October 24th, 2013

Hey. I need some words of wisdoms from you all-knowing geezers.
So here’s the thing. I travel to uni quite often and that means a couple hours on trains, buses etc. I also love to read. The thing is: reading, as good as it is, is expensive and recently I’ve gotten back into comic books/graphic novels. So i’ve downloaded quite a few.
To get to the point of my post, what I’m wanting to do is to have a tablet so I could read on my journeys (and I’m feeling greedy, so also play games or watch films even, but thats not a priority)
The main thing I need is for something that plays .cbr files (and is cheap )
Also bear in mind Im poor, so these are the possibilities I have found:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kindle-Wi-Fi-6-Ink-Display/dp/B0051QVF7A/ref=amb_link_161426467_2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=0M9MV1Q47RMJXEYB4SHJ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=255756507&pf_rd_i=468294
I could stick to the kindle? does it play .cbr? if not, could always view the comics in their image form? if so im sold.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0051SXFWQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3FBRFJEH1TPJ2
I like this one because its cheap, would it play .cbr?
Theres also the blackberry playbook which sounds okey enough.
Anyways. thank you for reading. I wanted some further opinions from a forum I pretty much come to for most of my needs now, so any suggestions or recommendations is much appreciated. cheers.

I don t know bout those, but i m pretty sure you can read cbr on iPad. There is free app called CloudReaders, which supports pdf, cbr, etc…
However i would still go for an Notebook, just because of the functionality.

The one at Amazon you posted, not sure if it’s the exact same model but it’s cheaper

You can get Android apps that will open .cbr files
eg.

No probs, I buy tons of stuff through E-bay, very rarely do I have any problems, just look at the sellers feedback before buying. I get more problems via Amazon Marketplace.
iPad won’t play flash anyway

For my kids yes, I prefer my Netbook (Samsung NC10)
EDIT (Sat 15-10-11)
Well after looking at that tablet on Flea-bay, I decided to get one for my young neice, it arrived this morning, (along with a case with built in USB keyboard from somewhere else for £11).
Must admit – it is actually quite decent for £52.99 !
Hope you get a lot of enjoyment from yours

I did find another tablet on E-bay about the same price but with some freebies (earphones and neoprene case etc) but after doing a bit of Googling it turned out that one had major issues connecting to wi-fi.
This one I got for my neice connected first time to my router, and streams Youtube vids fairly smoothly. It did run down the battery quite quickly with the wi-fi turned on though.
I came across this site as well which may give you some tips.

I have got plenty of micro SDHC cards, as I can use them in one of my cameras, and in my smartphones, but thanks anyway
You can get 32 gig ones for about £28, but be careful, some are dodgy and only have a capacity between 4 and 16 gig (it’s some manufacturing fault).

Yes thats the one thing I noticed about the tablets. they run down the battery fairly quickly. I think its probably down to the apps that are running in the background, and also worth turning it into airplane mode if internet/wifi isnt needed. (PS have you any tips for battery saving?)
I love my tablet btw, got to read the dark knight returns and watch supernatural on my way to and from uni.
Cheers again buddy.
