I ordered a laptop (Dell XPS)
August 9th, 2013
Specs:
15.6″
2720qm
750gm 7200rpm
8gb ram
gt540 2gb
res 1920×1080
aluminium brushed
9 cell battery
3 year warranty by dell at my home.
it cost me a lot of money (about 1800$)
I could get the 17″ with 555gt ddr5 for the same price nearly but I didnt want it to be not-so-portable.
do you guys think this laptop will be able to last me for say 4-5 years?
It should be fine for office software for the next few years and browsing the net etc.
Even some light gaming, don’t expect great games performance though.
i dont expect GREAT gaming preformance, i guess it will do ALRIGHT for a year or two for gaming, nothing more.
I expect it to be good in all the rest, i.e photoshop, regular tasks…just speedy…
I expect stuff like WOW, portal/portal 2, mass effect+mass effect 2 to run smoothly, maybe mass effect 3 when it will come out on low settings too, nothing more…
What concerned me the most is the longevity of the laptop and the speed of daily tasks and programs.
Nobody can tell you with certainty what is going to happen in 4 years time.
Well I have an L501 model XPS one and the graphics seemed okay in Portal 2 but if you played continuously for like 2 hours then it could harm the longevity of your laptop because it gets too hot, so even if you want to game, do it for a little time and even if you can get a cooling pad. Havent run the rest of the games but I think the same will apply to any recent games. These werent really built for gaming you know, but more like heavy multimedia stuff. If you can take good care of the laptop then it can get you through 4-5 years. Speed of the programs you need not worry, it will be fast. Rest of them like photoshop, illustrator run fine without much heat.

You should have purchased an ASUS ROG. You would get a much better computer, with much better parts, for much cheaper. And, its not a Dell!

No problem, except that where I live at, those things cost roughly 2500$
Don’t buy on your country, buy outside.
