I need some info about RAID 0

January 15th, 2014

I currently have two hdd’s, one is 160GB hdd and other is 640GB hdd. My question is can I create 2 partitions on 640GB hdd (one around 160GB) and then use RAID0 with other hdd?
The setup would look like this in the end:
C: 320GB (160GB hdd + 160GB partition)
D: around 480GB (2nd partition).

Answer #1
Nope. It IS however possible with JBOD and filesystems like ZFS.
Answer #2
Yeah you can’t do RAID0 with partitions, but of you’re willing to lose the other 480GB, you can still do a RAID0 setup.
Answer #3
Thank you for reply. It is not possible to do it with hardware RAID and with RAID controller that comes witho motherboard. I have managed to do it with software RAID and it works perfectly. Well this way it’s slower than hardware RAID but it is still faster than JBOD. Also it uses processor to do this, but it doesn’t affect it that much.
