Setting up 2 ssd raid 0

August 3rd, 2013

Hi , i am trying to put 2 ssd in raid 0. I’ve read alot of posts i found on google and this is what i did so far:
1) : Plug both my SSD in the Sata 3 port (DUH!)
2) : go in bios , storage manager then put my config to RAID instead of AHCI.
Then everyone says that when my comp reboot i keep pushing “Ctrl + i” to enter in the intel matrix storage. however when i do so nothing happen but a black screen with a cursor flashing. Once i stop pressing them i got the windows menu (the one that ask me if i want to diagnore memory or simply boot windows) i am abit pissed since i can’t set up my SSDs into Raid 0 mode. Anyone can help me please?
This is my board (Asus p7p55d-e lx)

Thanks

Not gonna spend a lot of time reading instructions for your specific board as that’s really what you should be doing. However, some basic steps are as follows:
1) Ensure raid is enabled in the bios. Simply enabling for the drives may not be enough and you may need to go further ensuring that the bios actually loads the raid firmware on boot.
2) Once you’re sure step one is complete, boot your computer. You will see the raid firmware start-up and it will tell you which specific keys to press to get into the raid firmware. You’ll need to press these keys within the limited time frame (a few seconds) to get into the firmware setup.
3) Configure the array. Remember that you’ll be most likely clearing both drives of all data and will need to reinstall Windows. Also be sure to have the raid drivers available for Windows as it has limited raid drivers available.

How can i make sure it loads the raid firmware on boot? Any way i can set it? Thanks

ajcis55 has pretty much summed it up. However, just a forethought, have you got the latest firmware on your SSD’s, if not you will need to update each one seperately before putting it into RAID.
I don’t have time to read the manual for your mobo – I use RAID 0, and the Matrix storage manager is accessible on my mobo by using Ctrl & I on boot.
*Edit – I see you are already using a SSD in your sig specs, so you prob know all this…

Raid 0 on ssd right now is pointless.
Best keep trim and a single drive.
Boot times will be longer in raid 0 and app loads about the same.
THe only boost you really see is in benchmarks for sequential speeds (no use)

Anyway.. since my 6Gb/s ports arent able to make Raid.. i just plugged them normaly otherwise i would have made a Raid0 but using sata 2 ports which .. im pretty sure i’ll make even SLOWER. thanks anyway for help

It was never a good idea to begin with anyway, you are better off without it.
The performance of the M4’s in Raid 0 and without trim would just degrade and shorten the drives lifespan by a good margin.
